The Fukei

Explore the Eastern aesthetic

The Fukei likes to explore the idea of beauty, and their first designs are inspired by the traditional Japanese aesthetic. Through learning the traditional Japanese way of interpreting beauty, and combining its aesthetic spirit with contemporary art, the Fukei brings everyone into this world through their design. In the future, they plan to explore other cultures in the Far East, such as Tibetan, Korean and ancient Chinese cultures.

The Fukei chose to handmake everything at first because of its practical simplicity. Over time, in every stitch and every piece of garment, they gain a new understanding of the process of making. They bring life, energy and ideas into the products, as if artists are pouring their vitality into creating their art. In different states, every single detail shows its unique variation and these tiny imperfections also reflect the beauty of human touch. All their products are hand-sewn, and using traditional techniques of cross stitching allows the thread to pass through the front and the back of the leather and reinforce the structure of the leather goods. They believe “if it is worth doing, it is worth doing well”. To achieve a high craftsmanship standard in all leather edges, they focus on the process of polishing and trimming. Using a special oil to form a smooth and completed edge ensures the products are escalated to another level.

All The Fukei products are made with vegetable tanned leather closely supervised and produced by pelle Conciata al Vegerale in Toscana from Italy. The quality of this leather is globally acknowledged. Compared with the chrome tanning method which adds chemicals during the tanning process, vegetable tanned leather retains the uniqueness of being natural and harmless. Since no chemical tanning materials or dyes are added during the process, vegetable tanned leather retains the most natural texture such as growth marks and scars. The Fukei keeps those imperfections if they are not affecting the product structure during the making process, creating all unique pieces.
